Dúthracht - the New Moon in Fixed Fire

24th July 2025 conjoined Talitha, trine Neptune, opposed Pluto and tridecile Ceres

Beneath the earliest light, she moves steadily along a path well-travelled. Her paws softly pad with a quiet certainty, while the heather rustles in the breeze that carries the breath of dawn, weaving scent and sound into a song held close by the hills that rise softly around her. Ahead, an elder oak spreads its wide arms, its roots pressing deep into the soil. The burgeoning light filters through the leaves in shifting patterns, twinkling like starlight reflecting off the moving waters of the oceanic sky.

The hound comes to rest upon a gentle rise overlooking the coastline, and nestled at the edge of the woods, beneath the daur, silently settling into the earth’s embrace, the dawn-light dancing in her emerald eyes, as she stares out towards the rising sun.

Giving up forever just to be here, she tastes the moment and breathes in his life, her unbroken vigil on endless loop, day in day out, arriving at that place most loved by him, ever hopeful that she will once again be in his presence. Ever hopeful, enchanted by the light he brought patiently she waits.

And waits.

And waits; steadfast to this place, completely dedicated and unaware of the passage of time.

There is something beautifully awe inspiring to know that quiet and steadfast fire that fuels the deepest of commitments, whether it is a craft, a cause, or the well-being of another soul. That unwavering presence brought to what, or who, truly matters; a tenacity that moves beyond obligation; and a loyalty that is utterly heart-based, to be devoted is to pour yourself into the moment with full attention, to find sacredness in the ordinary, and to allow purpose to bloom from persistence.

Do you recognise those qualities within the framework of those you know who resonate within the boundaries of Fixed Fire? They are certainly aptly captured within the lore associated in Ireland of this sign of the zodiac, as it is known as Cú, the hound, since Lion’s do not roam beneath the fifty shades of grey clouds perpetually hung above the damp north-western island soil!

Bound by loyalty unspoken and courage drawn from the roots of the hills, he stands where shadow meets dawn, a guardian shaped by the old world’s laws. In his quiet watch, there is no need for words; his vigil is the steady beat of devotion, as certain and unyielding as the rivers that carve the land. The hound’s eyes reflect the fire of twilight, fierce and steady, carrying the weight of names of those who he loves and serves.

Similarly, another hound, this time a fictional one, moved with a presence shaped by exile and fierce loyalty, his eyes holding the wildness of open skies and nights spent beneath stars. Carrying the weight of promises kept beyond speech, a silent and unwavering commitment to those whose lives had been bound with his by courage and unspoken love. In the stillness between dawn and dusk, his spirit remained close to those who stood against shadow, and to the child who carried their hope forward. This devotion shaped him like the roots of ancient trees, steady and unwavering through all passing seasons, as he, Sirius Black, protected Harry Potter in both human and hound form.

Moving with dúthracht, or devotion, each step a reflection of an unwavering purpose, in the hound’s heart lies a certainty, a knowing that carries forward without question or hesitation. The breath of duty fills every movement, steady and whole. When a summons arrives, it is met with a seamless answering, without any hesitant colour in his response.

Perception opens wide, extending beyond the borders of all that is known, embracing the world with alert attentiveness, the hound stands where the familiar melts into the unknown. Every sense remains alert and attuned, prepared to respond to the slightest shift or disturbance. This vigilance is deliberate, and unspoken, after all, there is no need for words to explain purpose or intent. This psychology reflects a complete and unshakable alignment with role. As he remains anchored in his vow, the hound is fully present, simply waiting, ready for the moment when action must be taken. After all, when you are devoted, you give your full attention to what you care about, and you do so with sincerity and consistency, touching something internally eternal, rendering space and time negligible.

For me, the symbolism of the hound more accurately depicts the qualities of devotional loyalty that I have observed, and admire, in those close to my heart who have planets in Leo. The renowned hound of Irish legend, Setanta, was once a young man who, much like Sirius Black, transformed into a formidable hound, alert, unwavering, deeply loyal, and possessed of a resolute spirit, better known as Cú Chulainn – the hero of Irish lore, a title more aptly known for the rulership orientated interpretations of this Solar Sign.

Unwaveringly loyal, replete with a strong sense of duty and honour, and an almost austere discipline, planets in this sign carry an air of quiet intensity, not given to speech or show, but whose presence commands respect through sheer commitment and steadiness. And it is those qualities that are on the altar of rebirth this coming lunation.

As the moon wanes over the three days before the Cú lunation, you may feel a gentle call to examine the fire that fuels your relationship to dúthracht. I invite you to reflect on what truly inspires your commitment and how that passion sustains itself beyond fleeting moments. Additionally, I would ask you to consider how dúthracht shapes the core of who you are, and to take an honest look at the ways it colours your purpose and identity.

In more succinct terms

· What inspires your commitment and keeps it alive over time?

· How, if at all, does dúthracht shape your sense of purpose or identity?

· In what ways do you express your dúthracht beyond words?

The Cú is accessible to you, whether through planets in that sign, your soul memory of lifetimes spent developing a relationship to that sign or through the psyche of those in your life who have planets in that sign. The days leading up to the lunation are a threshold where intention meets the promise of kindling courage and warmth of Cú’s steady flame and to renew your relationship to Dúthracht, or devotion, a quality that connects you to something greater than yourself and that brings a quiet strength that grows each time you return to what matters.

Remember that even the smallest act, done with sincerity, carries the weight of the infinite.

Embrace your inner Hound.
