Reflecting on a song that summarises this week’s energetics, I decided upon Kate Bush’s Cloudbusting, first released in 1985, as being a perfect expression of the Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune-Mars theme. It is an emotionally powerful and deeply affecting, though not entirely cohesive, the music itself is intense and compelling, yet the song as a whole doesn’t fully achieve integration between its musical and lyrical elements. This partial disconnect may stem from the mismatch in tone and meaning between the two, as well as the cryptic nature of the lyrics.
It is inspired by A Book of Dreams by Peter Reich, which recounts his childhood with his father Wilhelm Reich, a controversial psychiatrist who believed in the existence of a life energy that could be manipulated to destroy “bad energy” and bring rain, a process he called cloudbusting. He built a machine to do this, and his son became part of his imagined crusade against destructive forces, including government authorities. The song reflects this story, portraying Peter’s memories, especially his bond with his father, the fear of authorities, and the lasting psychological imprint of childhood experiences. The standout lyrical moment—“I just know that something good is gonna happen”, something we know that is true Jovian in expression.
