The Luminous Cavern Discussion

In this video, I expand on the New Moon article by entering the deeper symbolic field around the ill fated, maligned and misunderstood star, Algol, which along with Ceres and Capulus are aligned with the lunation.

The creative Mills and Boons-esque story weaves together mythology, astronomy, and music as a way of tracing how certain stories continue to shape our relationship with power, the body, and creative energy.

The story of Medusa, of Psyche, and of Lilith sits at the centre of this exploration. I work with her as a figure of intensity, rupture, and transformation, alongside mythic counterparts such as Tiamat and the Morrigan. I see a continuity in those stories of how feminine force is encoded, carrying both erotic charge and creative potency, which within the astrological lexicon, Algol functions as a focal point for this inquiry.

Its alignment with our Sol, each 15th - 18th of May, marks a moment that speaks to renewal through embodiment, erotic energy being central to this invocation. Whilst I have attempted to explore this erotic energy as a generative force that moves through connection, tension, and encounter, I am conscious I am a man and therefore do not truly understand what it means to be a woman and how this is for her. Forgive me for my mansplaining, and I look forward to the ladies taking these ideas and making them more meaningful and relevant from within the feminine.

I have attempted to weave music into the passage, along with the background of the narration as it articulates the mood and tone of this creative energy more precisely than abstract language alone. Perhaps you spotted some of the lyrics from artists like Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, and Pearl Jam?

Moreover, the New Moon narrative also weaves the Earth is a parallel to the story, after all her experience mirrors woman’s experiences - objectification, commoditisation, conqueror, rape and pillage, to name but a few. The Earth is also central to the sign of the lunation, and I explore the meaning of Taurus from the perspective of being Fixed Earth - a living system and one that reflects how human beings relate to the feminine, to matter, and to life itself.

Thanks for reading and watching, and I look forward to your comments, if you feel drawn to share any.
